Club Kawana Radio Yachts is located on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. It is enjoying a growing member number and plenty of new boats within its little boat fleet.

It was previously known as Mooloolaba Radio Yacht Club and was the host of the 2005 World IOM Championships.

The club has been established for 10 years and currently its membership and fleet is increasing. Our fleet sails at Lake Kawana and information about our activities can be viewed on our website.

Club initiatives 2013:
1. Ensure members leave each sailing day enjoying the day
2. Promote several social occasions away from the sailing and including wives, girlfriends and partners
3. Improve the members knowledge of the rules
4. Provide an explanation of the rules at all times, ensure any incidents are clarified and explained and promote an attitude from all members that they willingly take their penalties.
5. Instigate monthly training days with an emphasis on starting strategies, starting techniques (e.g. holding position on the line), boat tuning, mark rounding and racing strategies.
6. Provide a racing environment that gives all members an opportunity to achieve a result no matter their experience, ability, age or gender. The club provides several scratch and handicap trophies and an over 60 year’s scratch trophy.
7. Maximise the number of races available to members to participate in.

• The club has regular handicap racing on every Tuesday of the year. There are regular weekly, monthly and annual point score winners.
• We have regular scratch races on every Saturday of the year. In addition to the regular season Club Championship point score (held monthly) we have instigated a Gold Cup Trophy series held monthly with an annual winner. We have also initiated an annual over 60 year scratch series, held monthly with an annual Legends Trophy. It’s the Club’s intent to advertise the Legends (over 60’s ) for the 2014 Season to all Brisbane and Qld club members to participate on this trophy event.
• The Club also has regular Handicap and Scratch series through the year with the Bell Trophy, the Clock Trophy.

The year to date has been a busy one where the club has hosted 3 major regattas, the IOM Queensland Championships, the Eddie Cowell Perpetual Trophy and round 1 of the Tri Club Series between Paradise, Moreton and Kawana clubs.

Our membership continues to grow and the fleet has been substantially updated this year with 5 new Bantock/ Tim Brown Fraktals, 3 Lincoln McDowell Blitz, a Vickers V8, a BG BritPOP, a new owner constructed SKA and 3 self designed and built yachts.

We are very lucky to have a pro-active committee that regularly has hard copy updates of rules and sailing and racing techniques. We also get regular references to videos and You Tube clips of individual rule interpretations, racing strategies, starting techniques, mark rounding techniques, tuning tips and yacht maintenance advice.

As a club we are fortunate to be affiliated with Club Kawana, a large social club that provides us with an exceptional clubhouse, a fine dining room, socialising facilities and an ongoing source of sponsorship. The members and partners have enjoyed several social occasions this year where they have shared quiet ale and munchies while participating in rounds of barefoot bowling.

It is our ongoing intention to provide an atmosphere where our members come to sail in a fair and reasonable environment, obey the rules and enjoy the experience.
