RYCV call to members to support Cadet youth selected to compete in Worlds

Cadet World Championship 2014 logoOne of the many Highlights of the 52nd International Cadet Australian Championships hosted by the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, was that Louis Schofield (14) and Peter Allen (11), sailing in Jonathon L, representing the Royal Yacht Club of Victoria, were selected to go to the World Championships to represent Australia.

Louis and Pete are committed, good and responsible kids.  As ambassadors for their Club and their Country, they are outstanding representatives.  They are the first ‘Royals’ Cadet to be invited to join the Australian team in 10 years.

Check out their profiles by clicking on their photos.

Louis Schofield Peter Allen

This year the ‘Australian International Cadet Class Team’, is headed to Weymouth, UK (the Olympic sailing venue), to compete in the in the 2014 World Championships – http://cadetworlds.co.uk/

The 2014 World Championships will be a big event.  The hosts estimate over 250 sailors from around the world will be taking part.  The event will be one of the biggest junior sailing events to be held in the UK in 2014.

The UK National Championships will take place on the 9th – 12th of August, which is open to all qualifying competitors.  It’s a great opportunity for international boats to compete to get acclimatized to conditions.  The World Championships takes place on the 14th – 22nd of August.  The Australian Cadet Class Association pays for World Championship Registration fees.  Most of the costs to compete at the World Championships fall to the individual sailor and their families.
Budget Considerations (provided by the ICCA – Int. Cadet Class of Australia)

The following budget is a summary of estimated total costs associated with sending a group of four (i.e. skipper, crew and 2 parents) to compete in the World Championships in Belgium last year.

Per person
Airfares $2800 $11,200
Accomodation $800 $3,200
Car Hire for 21 days @ $65/day $1,365
Cadet Charter for regatta $2,200
Living Allowance for 21 days $500 $2,000
Uniforms – Skipper & Crew $300 $600
Contribution to team coaching per cadet approx. $800 $800
TOTAL - $20, 565

We’re requesting support to help Louis and Pete compete at the highest level, with the world’s best.  Assistance to help them gain valuable experience, that they can share and return to their Club, State and Country.  We hope their experiences will lift all junior sailors’ ambitions and performance, contributing to RYCV and Australia’s continued sailing success into the future.

To this end we are fundraising.  We will be running sausage sizzles, a raffle and maybe a fundraising event night with an auction.

If you or your company is able to donate goods or services toward the raffle or the auction, it would be greatly appreciated.

By buying a sausage, raffle ticket, attending the event night and buying at auction is equally as supportive.

In addition, tax deductible donations to the Australian Sports Foundation in support of the Club’s fundraising efforts can be made.  Please refer attached ASF donation form.

C’mon
