Sail Paradise: last year’s winner to return for 2015 regatta

Philip Turner’s Reichel/Pugh 66, Alive, will be back to defend her IRC Championship crown at Southport Yacht Club’s Sail Paradise in March.

When confirming the yacht’s entry, the skipper, Duncan Hine, said he and the crew were looking forward to three days of competitive racing off the Gold Coast as part of their build-up to the Brisbane to Gladstone race at Easter next year.

Sail Paradise is scheduled from Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8.

The regatta is open to the full spectrum of sailboats, from off-the-beach dinghies and catamarans through to offshore multihulls, cruising yachts and the upper echelon of Grand Prix racers.

A combined fleet of more than 70 is expected.

Alive is likely to once again face a strong challenge for top honours at Sail Paradise from Peter Harburg’s impressive Volvo 70, Black Jack, skippered by Mark Bradford.

“Sail Paradise was a great regatta this year, so we are looking forward to some more good sailing and fun times next March,” Duncan Hine said this week.

One local yacht likely to set the height of the bar in the IRC and ORCi Division at Sail Paradise 2015 is Tony Horking’s Northshore 38 design, Leeway/Ensign. This yacht has just returned to Southport Yacht Club after a trophy-winning mission at Airlie Beach Race Week.

The Notice of Race for Sail paradise 2015, and an online entry form, are available here.
